Seaforth Farm

Seaforth Farm, accommodation in Salt Rock

Description

Seaforth Farm is an historical old farm just 30 minutes from Durban and on the main route to the wonders of Zululand.
It is situated on high ground overlooking Salt Rock on the North Coast of South Africa.

Seaforth was first owned by Sir Liege Hulett, founder of the South African sugar industry. He purchased it for his father, DR James. L. Hulett who later became the Bishop of Zululand.

Seaforth became the first school in the area, opened in 1858 by Dr Hulett and his daughters, and recently a Seaforth College has opened in the area.

The home is always decorated with imaginative floral art arrangements, mostly picked from the huge sub tropical gardens. Sharneen is a well known water colour painter and floral artist.

Trevor thoroughly enjoys showing his guests around on a late afternoon walk, where they are introduced to his "painted" cattle, the hardy & beautiful Nguni. These are South Africa's indigenous cattle species. Trevor is also an excellent woods craftsman and some of his works are incorporated in the furnishing of the house.

Primary farming activities include a Nguni Cattle Stud, speciality broiler chickens, an organic vegetable and fruit garden and a litchi orchard.

Attractions

The beach is the main attraction for most visitors and the Dolphin Coast has 5 kms of magnificent golden beaches and sheltered coves from which to choose, including one named after Trevor’s grandfather, Thompson’s Bay!

The Dolphin Coast is home to many exciting rock & surf fishing spots and many game fish are caught offshore by local fishing enthusiasts. Some of the beaches offer excellent diving spots for the spear fishermen and beautiful reefs for the scuba diver.

There are many interesting places along the Dolphin Coast to explore. These include Crocodile Farms, an Animal Farm, Sugar Mill, Pottery Gallery, a “Zulu” experience, and the historical King Shaka Trail.

Other activities on offer are 3 great Golf Courses, Horse riding, quad Bikes, Microlight Flips and Dolphin Viewing at sea. Various shopping centres and restaurants are available, as well as two Saturday Markets.
