The town of St Lucia can be regarded as the gateway to the St Lucia Wetlands which has been proclaimed as a World Heritage Site. The Santa Lucia Guest House offers warm friendly hospitality in a homely atmosphere. The rooms are comfortable and tastefully furnished and the following choices are available:

Room no 1

Santa Lucia Room 1

- Has twin beds and an en suite shower and toilet with a small private patio . When the inter-leading door to room 4 is opened, it can be regarded as a very spacious family unit. If requested in advance, these twin beds can be converted to a king size bed by adding another mattress.

Room no 2

– Has twin beds, an en suite shower and toilet and an extra divan, suitable for a young person. This room is also called a “garden” room as it has a door leading onto a private patio, the garden and swimming pool area. If requested in advance, these twin beds can be converted to a king size bed by adding another mattress.

Room no 3

 Santa Lucia Room 3

- Has twin beds with an en suite shower and toilet and an extra divan suitable for a young person. We call this a “garden” room as it also has a door leading to a private patio, the garden and swimming pool. The twin beds can, on request, be converted into a king size bed by adding a king size mattress.

Room no 4

- Is a large room with full bathroom (bath, shower and toilet) and a private patio leading onto the garden and swimming pool area. This room has an extra length queen size bed and a seating area and is the room we usually allocate to honeymoon couples. (This room has a lockable door which can connect with no 1).

Rooms 1 and 4 - are usually used separately but a lockable inter-leading door can be opened when we have a family staying. These two rooms then form a complete suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, both with their own private patio leading onto the garden and swimming pool area.

Santa Lucia Room 4

Rooms 5 and 6

- Form the extremely popular annexe. The annexe is an apartment separate from the main house, yet linked by a large veranda. Room 5 consists of a room with a queen size bed and full bathroom (bath and shower). It has an inter-leading door to Room 6, another bedroom with twin beds and its own en suite bathroom consisting of a shower and toilet. The twin beds in no 6 can also, on request, be converted into a king size bed.

Adjoining rooms 5 and 6 has a private sitting and relaxing area with an extra divan to sleep an additional person. The annexe can easily accommodate 5 persons and is ideal for a group of 4 or 5 people or a family as it offers much more space and privacy. These rooms can be let as a unit or separately, as each one has its own entrance.

Although no cooking can be done in the annexe, there are tea/coffee making facilities, a large refrigerator and a microwave oven for heating milk or ‘take-aways’. Some extra crockery is available in the cupboards of the kitchen in case the group wish to make a few sandwiches or perhaps a salad.

The annexe area has a large private patio which has a beautiful view across the garden and swimming pool – it is private and special and gives the feeling of being surrounded by trees and tropical growth.

Location

The Lake St Lucia area was declared a Nature Reserve in 1897. This reserve included the Lake and some of the surrounding land. The original reserve of 37,000 Ha is considered the oldest permanently declared reserve in Africa. In 2007 the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park was renamed to iSimangaliso (meaning "Miracle, or Marvel") Wetland Park. The park's uniqueness lies in its remarkable diversity. It is South Africa's third-largest park, spanning 280 kilometres of coastline, from the Mozambican border in the north to Cape St Lucia, south of the St Lucia estuary. The natural ecosystem consist of swamps, lake systems, beaches, coral reefs, wetlands, woodlands and coastal forests. Lake St. Lucia is the largest Estuarine system in the world. These ecosystems provide a natural habitat for an astounding diversity of species, from the country's largest population of hippos and crocodiles to giant leatherback turtles, black rhino, leopards, and a vast array of bird and marine life. St Lucia supports more species of animal than the better-known and much larger Kruger National Park and Okavango Delta.
