The resort, which borders the magnificent Futululu forest, offers caravan and camping sites, comfortable fully furnished and equipped chalets in a natural parkland habitat, and an Environmental center for large or small school groups, with shaded lawns and a sparkling pool. Put your feet up, and enjoy the experience of the many and varied attractions that Futululu Park offers. Futululu Park is perfectly situated on the edge of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park and we are only 17 km from St Lucia town (the fishermans Mecca) where all amenities can be found, and where you will also have easy access to the Umfolozi and Hluhluwe Game reserves.

The resort boasts a kiosk/tuck shop, token operated laundry, jungle gym, obstacle course, volley ball court, small playing field, swimming pool, scullery tubs and is close to a golf course, restaurants, hiking trails, crocodile and snake center and game drives can be arranged.

The Futululu Environmental Centre is surrounded by forest, pans, wetlands and grasslands.
There are several hiking trails accessing all these natural assets.
Fossil outcrops occur on the edges of the nearby fertile Umfolozi floodplain.
Our central kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering or you may choose the fully catered option.
With these varied eco-systems comes an abundance of plants, birds, small game, butterflies etc.

We do survival and leadership camps as well.

We can assist in the planning of an itinerary, which may include a range of activities or outings, and we offer specialist tour guides to accompany your group if so required.

Each event-filed day will end under the stars around the large campfire relating stories and listening to the sounds of the African bush.

  • Join a scenic boat tour on the estuary renowned for its crocodile, hippo and water birds.

  • Visit the lakeside resorts of Charters Creek and Fanies Island from where guided boats on Lake St Lucia are offered.

  • Visit Mission Rocks and explore the pristine rock pools or hike to the unique Perriers Bay or Bats Cave.

TOUR OPTIONS

Trails: Make use of the two Futululu trails accessing the wetlands, climax forest and grasslands to initiate an environmental awareness. Witness prolific bird life and small game. The guide will introduce the students to the basics of bird, tree and small game identification, forest dynamics, alien plant control, habitat rehabilitation, flood plain dynamics etc.

Mission Rocks Marine Tour: A guide provides goggles to explore the deep rock pools and examines the inter-tidal zone in detail. The sandy shore and coastal forest can be included in the lesson.

Cape Vidal Tour: Offers much the same as at Mission Rocks, but is a fantastic site for snorkelling in the clear, protected bay. This site also offers trails through coastal forest and around a freshwater lake.

Crocodile Centre: Get a close up view of four different crocodile species and several types of snakes. The guide will keep the students captivated for two hours with an in-depth examination of these fascinating creatures.

St Lucia Estuary Cruise: The cruise offers good sitings of hippo, crocodiles and water birds. A guide can explain the importance of the 40km long lake and 20km long tidal channel as a nursery and feeding ground for birds and marine, estuarine and freshwater fish and organisms.

St Lucia Game Park and Beach: View magnificent mangrove and swamp forests, grasslands, pans and big game on foot. There are several trails accessing the various eco-systems for which the area is famous. Utilise the beach for a fun filled session of games and swimming or else do a beach hike from Mission Rocks to St Lucia.

Agricultural and Forestry Tours: Visit the unique sugar farms on the Umfolozi Flood Plain and discuss the impact farming has had on the ecology and natural flood plain dynamics, or visit forestry plantations for a demonstration on tree breeding and general forestry activities.

Fossil Site:  Visit one of the richest marine fossil sites in the country and discuss evolution and the formation of the flood plain.

Zulu Culture: Either visit a cultural village or be entertained locally by Zulu dancers. The students are invited to join the dancers, often with amusing consequences.

Snake Talk and Display: The knowledgeable guide gives a fascinating talk at the resort. The students are allowed to handle some of the snakes which makes it more engaging.

Hluhluwe /Umfolozi Game Reserve: Take a day trip in search of the Big Five in the company of KwaZulu Wildlife guides who are eager to share their knowledge with the students.

The Resort offers comfortable chalets, caravan/camping sites and an Environmental Centre, in a beautiful and secure garden setting with shaded lawns and a sparkling swimming pool. Whilst the Environmental Centre is aimed primarily at school groups, the dormitories, rooms and fully equipped modern kitchen are also a popular venue for large church and other special interest groups. The two hiking trails at the resort offer excellent birding and access to two pans where one can end the day with a sundowner in a most tranquil and peaceful setting. The resort has a small tuck shop and a token operated laundry and, for children, there is a jungle gym, obstacle course, volley ball court and a small playing field.

Directions

From Jhb or Durban on the N2 take the Mtubatuba turn off. Take the R618 to St. Lucia. 16 km from Mtubatuba turn right at the Monzi turn off. Continue on the road for 6.8 km and turn right at the Futululu Park sign.
